The design of the F430 was always going to give Ferrari a few headaches as this car was to become the replacement for the iconic 360 Modena. So rather than go for a complete revolution, the F430 is more of an evolution of the F360. Yes, the F430 has a new engine, diff and a new 6-speed ‘F1′ style electrohydraulic box, but the aluminium space frame chassis that gave the F360 such poise and prowess and the track has been retained, it has been strengthened though and this extra strength has made it stiffer, thus allowing it to cope with the larger engine and the corresponding increase in power.
Rather than the 3.6 litre V8 32 Valve engine that powers the F360, the F430 has had a new 4.3 litre V8 32 Valve lump shoe horned in to the updated chassis, thus explaining why a new diff was required. As a result of the new engine the brake horsepower has been increased to an impressive 483 and the 0 – 60 time has been cut to four seconds dead. With a top speed of 196 mph the only place to experience the F430 and have any hope of hanging on to your licence is on the race track and there’s no better place than the “Jewel of the North”, the Three Sisters Race Circuit.
