The Ferrari California ticked a good few boxes when it came to firsts for the Italian manufacturer. It’s the first front engined V8 Grand Tourer, the first hardtop coupe cabriolet with a roof that folds seamlessly into the boot and the first to use a seven speed dual clutch gearbox. The 4.3-litre V8 engine that powers the California has been used previously in the F430, so whilst it isn’t a totally new engine it has had the bore and stroke modified to cope with the extra weight the folding roof has generated. So how does the California compare to its svelte sibling when it weighs 300 kgs more when it comes to the performance on the track. Put simply, very well.
With the engine alterations, the brake horsepower produced by the California is slightly down on the F430 at 453, but there has been a slight increase in the torque and as a result both these supercars accelerate from 0 – 60 miles per hour in just four seconds flat. The top speed has taken a little knock when compared to its racier sibling, but at 193 mph the California is hardly slow. Then there’s the soundtrack the California produces, it may rumble when the start button is first pressed but that quickly becomes a wail as it approaches its 8000 rpm redline, so it’s little wonder this experience has proved so popular with all our drivers.

Following a quick registration on arrival at the track, the Ferrari California Driving Experience at Three Sisters begins with a full safety and technical briefing carried out by one of our qualified ARDS instructors. Here drivers will be given the opportunity to quiz the instructor and ask as many questions as they have about the car, the circuit and the Ferrari California Experience ahead.
Briefing over, it’s over to the pit lane where the instructor will get behind the wheel for some familiarisation laps, here the instructor will show the driver the racing lines, braking points, car positioning and the general topography of the circuit. These laps with the instructor behind the wheel ensures that all drivers get the most out of their drive when they take control of the fabulous Ferrari California for a full six mile drive.
